Webinar: Learning When To Put the Work Away: Finding Balance for Veteran Farmers
Thursday, March 12, 2020, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CST
Category: Webinars

Presenter: Shay Foulk
Shay Foulk is Iowa State University Agronomist turned Army Ranger, turned veteran farmer and agricultural consultant. After 4 years with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Savannah, Georgia, Shay now farms with his father-in-law in NW Illinois, and consults all over the United States and Canada helping farmers solve complex problems such as business structuring, farm collaborations, profit management, peer group facilitation, safety planning, and speaking.

Summary

Often times it is better to hear from someone experiencing the same things, rather than someone telling you they understand what you’re going through. Listen in as Shay Foulk discusses the real challenges and opportunities he has faced as a returning farmer veteran, and how he is learning and living ways to try to shut down. Honest, open, and frank, Shay will discuss topics that may seem uncomfortable to talk about with others in the industry, because they don’t quite understand what that transition is like in today’s environment. If you’re a farmer veteran in agriculture, someone who works with and wants to better understand veterans, or someone simply interested in the challenges and opportunities veterans in agriculture face today, be sure to tune in.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will understand:

  • Why veteran farmers don’t know how to shut down

  • Why we need to shut down and step away from work

  • How we can implement healthier decisions

  • Why not knowing how to shut down is a positive thing

  • Other things to consider and lessons learned
