There are over 250 infectious diseases we share with animals. Twenty four of these are important occupational hazards to farmers, their families and workers in the U.S. Most people have heard of bird flu and swine flu. However how many know the specific risk of human illness from these viruses. Less in the media, are disease even more common that we share with animals, such as certain dermal fungal infections from cattle, bacterial infections contracted from urine or aborted fetuses. Also have you heard about one of the most feared hospital acquired infections (MRSA) that now resides in farm animals. This lecture will answer all these questions and many more, plus how to recognize and prevent them. It will be delivered in a story telling context by case example, as this author has investigated and diagnose these illnesses in a career covering over 40 years in Agricultural Medicine.

At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Understand where would you go, who would you call, what references would you use to get factual information on suspected zoonotic infections in a client or patient
2. Recognize which zoonotic infections would you expect a risk in a dairy operation
3. Recognize which zoonotic infection would you expect a risk in a swine operation
4. Know general recommendations for prevention of zoonotic infections in a livestock production operation.
